FIGHT SONG
FIGHT SONG is an installation and performance featuring 40+ salvaged marching band instruments suspended from the ceiling. Visitors wear an EEG headset and read a silent meditation from a music stand. Their brainwave data is translated in real time into a 16-part composition played by the instruments around them — valves opening, bells vibrating, air moving through brass.
The marching band is an institution built for spectacle and collective noise. Here, its instruments are repurposed toward attention and care. Football culture carries a parallel soundtrack: fight songs and halftime routines exist alongside traumatic brain injury and chronic pain.
A parallel body of video work documents 300+ member NCAA marching bands performing original sonic healing meditations in public spaces.
Premiered at Art League Houston, 2023; Presented at Co-lab Projects, Fusebox Festival, and SPACES, Cleveland.
Upcoming: Locust Projects, Miami.
